FAQs

  • There are various programs that allow you to take a hearing test on your computer or smartphone. These tests cannot be trusted as accurate, but can be a good starting point for understanding your hearing status.

Hinson Hearing at Home has equipment calibrated for accuracy, allowing us to conduct a full, comprehensive hearing exam in the comfort of your own home.

  • Some insurance policies have a benefit for hearing aids. Call your provider to find out details.

Many plans use a third-party hearing company who dictates who you can see, what hearing aids you can purchase, and what kind of follow-up visits you can receive.

To guarantee quality devices and best service, Hinson Hearing at Home is NOT in network with these types of insurance plans. However, we will provide you with an invoice and claim document if you wish to seek reimbursement from your policy.

  • Anyone over the age of 55 should have their hearing tested annually. Also, any person with known hearing loss should receive annual testing regardless of age.

Some chemotherapy regimens and other drugs can cause hearing loss when ingested. In those cases, more frequent hearing testing is recommended.

  • Hearing aids vary in price based on the configuration of your hearing loss, your specific listening needs, and the sophistication of the technology selected. With Hinson Hearing at Home, we are proud to improve access to hearing health by offering some of the lowest hearing aid pricing in lower Alabama. Our hearing aids range from $650 to $2900 per device.

  • OTC hearing aids are not programmed to your specific hearing loss, but are instead calibrated to a national average of mild losses. However, many OTC products will work well for those with mild loss. They may also come with programs to help you in light noise or with the TV.

Prescription hearing aids are programmed to your specific loss, increasing not only volume but clarity of sounds. These devices scan the environment thousands of times per second, making changes to the settings automatically, without you having to make manual changes. That being said, you can always download an app to customize your hearing aids in certain situations where you typically struggle.

  • You can! Many patients will acquire prescription hearing aids from a friend or family member. If the devices are able to be reprogrammed, our audiologist can test your hearing, adjusting the donated aids to match your needs. We charge a transfer/reprogramming fee of $300 per device. Once paid, you are eligible to sign up for our affordable service subscription plans which ensures proper cleaning, maintenance, and programming of the devices as needed.
